LOWER LAKE — Lower Lake High School”s junior varsity volleyball team opened the 2012 season in style Saturday, winning the Pierce Kickoff Tournament in Arbuckle.
Lower Lake played both host Pierce High School and Williams twice and won all four matches during round-robin pool play. The Trojans opened the tournament with a 25-17, 25-17 win over Pierce, beat Williams 25-18, 13-25, 15-12, came back with another victory over Pierce, 25-13, 29-27, and finished up with a come-from-behind 20-25, 25-21, 15-12 win over Williams.
The Trojans again rallied for a thrilling 22-25, 27-24, 15-12 victory in the championship match against Pierce.
“We only had eight girls for the tournament and each and every one stepped up and did their jobs,” Lower Lake first-year coach Barbara Watson said. “It was definitely a team effort and a good way to start our season.”
Lower Lake returns to action Sept. 4 against St. Vincent in Petaluma.
