MCKINLEYVLLE — The Lower Lake Trojans stayed close for a half before falling 41-14 to the Hoopa Warriors in the season opener for both of these varsity football teams Friday night at McKinleyville High School.

Lower Lake (0-1) scored eight quick points in the second quarter, the first two on a safety and then six more when Jared Thompson returning the ensuing free kick 50 yards for a touchdown.

The Trojans scored again in the third quarter on Johnny Egger”s 5-yard run.

Thompson finished with 85 yards rushing on 11 carries.
