KELSEYVILLE — Quarterback A.J. Cromwell completed 18 of 22 passes for 244 yards and four touchdowns Friday night as the Kelseyville High School junior varsity football team shut out Upper Lake 33-0 in the season opener for both teams at Kelseyville.

“He attended a quarterback camp at Sacramento State over the summer and it really paid off for him,” Kelseyville coach Mike Lyndall said of his sophomore quarterback.

Cromwell also ran for 44 yards.

Devin Dugger also had a big game for the Knights (1-0) with seven catches for 126 yards and three TDs as well as 47 yards rushing.

Luis Acosta added another 48 yards on the ground and a touchdown.

On defense, Dugger, Noah Lyndall and Ben Russell led the way with five solo tackles apiece. Kelly Duty added two tackles and a fumble recovery while Acosta had four solo stops and one assist.

“We”re extremely green,” Lyndall said of his 2012 squad. “It”s not the most athletic group but it”s one of the hardest working groups in all honesty that I”ve ever worked with.”

Kelseyville plays John Swett High School Friday night in Crockett.
