LAKEPORT — Cars can”t park in two new areas of the city after the Lakeport City Council adopted a resolution adding the prohibited zones Tuesday evening.

Council members voted 4-0 in favor of the changes during the nearly 25-minute open session at Lakeport City Hall. Councilman Roy Parmentier was absent.

The first modification increased the bus-only parking on the west side of North Main Street south of Third Street by 23 feet.

The second added a no-parking zone on Armstrong Street near South Starr Street because of a recently finished sidewalk improvement project.

“The alignment of the sidewalk along one stretch there was moved out into the parking lane to accommodate an existing, rather large redwood tree. So consequently, we don”t want cars parking along that, which would put them out into the travel lane,” City Engineer Scott Harter said.

The approved resolution replaced the previous resolution on prohibited parking zones. The only changes to the old law were the additions of the two new areas.

In other business, the council recognized Bob Marks for his term as a Lakeport Police Department volunteer.

Lakeport Police Chief Brad Rasmussen called him “one of the most reliable people that I”ve ever encountered and worked with.”

Marks, who volunteered with the department for about 20 months, completed a range of tasks, including enforcing parking laws, serving subpoenas, managing vehicle maintenance and working special events, Rasmussen said.

Marks and his wife decided to move to Paso Robles to live closer to their grandchildren, the chief added.

Mayor Stacey Mattina read aloud a proclamation recognizing Marks, who was unable to attend the meeting.
