COLUSA COUNTY — The pair of fires burning off Highway 16 reached 7,236 acres and remained 10 percent contained, CAL FIRE reported Thursday morning.
The blazes, which burn four miles apart south of Highway 20 in the Rumsey Canyon area of Colusa County, started Tuesday afternoon. The causes remain under investigation.
Evacuations are in place for the community of Cortina Rancheria.
Currently, 23 homes, one commercial property and seven outbuildings are threatened. One undisclosed injury was reported.
A total of 1,312 fire personnel responded Thursday morning, battling the blazes from the air and ground. The terrain is steep and access is limited, according to CAL FIRE.
Highway 16 remains closed from the Highway 20 junction in Colusa County to 7.1 miles east of the Colusa-Yolo county border at Manzanita Avenue. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes.
Collectively, the two fires are known as the “16 Complex.”
