CLEARLAKE — Clearlake police arrested a man on eight charges Thursday in connection with an alleged kidnapping and assault in Clearlake Park last month.

Derrick Earl Thompson, 41, of Clearlake was at least the second man taken into custody for allegedly participating in the attack.

The Clearlake Police Department (CPD) arrested Ike Frederick Mitchell, 43, of Clearlake on Aug. 16, three days after the incident reportedly started.

An unnamed woman reportedly told the CPD that Mitchell, a casual acquaintance, contacted her on Aug. 13 asking for her help in a marijuana deal.

When she refused and left the area, Mitchell and two other people followed and assaulted her and then forced her into the trunk of a vehicle, according to the CPD.

The woman escaped but was recaptured, placed back in the trunk and driven to a Third Street home in Clearlake Park, where she was kept for three days while the suspects obtained information needed to access her ATM account, the CPD stated.

The three people allegedly assaulted her.

She eventually managed to free herself, climb over a fence and ran from the area before getting a ride to St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake, where she spoke with officers, the CPD stated.

Mitchell was arrested and charged with 10 counts, including kidnapping, false imprisonment, assault, battery, burglary and robbery.

The CPD arrested Thompson Thursday and charged him with one misdemeanor and seven felonies, including kidnapping, robbery, battery, assault and burglary.

Both men are in custody at the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility.

It is unclear as of deadline Friday night whether the CPD is still looking for an additional suspect in the case.
