A true love story

HIT: Leighton and Bonna Alt married Wednesday afternoon in Library Park, nearly 60 years after they first dated in high school. The couple went their own ways after graduation, led separate lives for nearly half a century but reunited before their 50-year class reunion. They lived together for the next eight-plus years in Hidden Valley Lake.

Lakeport businesses close

MISS: Three recognizable city businesses (Bigg”s 155 Diner, Molly Brennans and the Full Throttle Tavern) closed within the past two weeks.

HIT: Other businesses in Lakeport continue to thrive, including Cheese”s Main Street Pizza, which changed ownership in July. New co-owner Tim Barnes said the first two months at the pizza parlor “exceeded expectations.”

Council holds short meeting

HIT: The Lakeport City Council added two new prohibited parking zones during its 25-minute open-session meeting Tuesday at city hall.

HIT: Mayor Stacey Mattina read aloud a proclamation recognizing Bob Marks for his nearly 20 months of service as a Lakeport Police Department volunteer.

Volunteer firefighter saves teen

HIT: A volunteer firefighter woke a 16-year-old boy asleep upstairs in a two-story Lower Lake home that caught fire downstairs Monday morning.

MISS: The house didn”t have any working smoke detectors.

HIT: Fire crews put out the blaze within 15 to 20 minutes and managed to contain the fire to the bathroom where it originated and an adjoining bedroom.

Suite surprise

HIT: Mike Descalso of Kelseyville won a pair of tickets to Sunday”s San Francisco Giants game after entering a drawing at the Clearlake Tire Pros this summer. He will watch the Giants play the Los Angeles Dodgers from the KNBR luxury suite.

Driver knocks down utility pole

MISS: A man in a green Chevrolet truck drove through a power pole on South Main Street in Lakeport late Tuesday morning. He was arrested and charged with DUI.

HIT: PG&E crews worked diligently and quickly to replace the pole.

Digital library

HIT: Lake County Library in partnership with Sonoma and Mendocino County libraries contracted for an e-book service with Overdrive, the company that supplies the library”s downloadable audiobooks.

Start a chain reaction

HIT: The educational program Rachel”s Challenge will be presented beginning Monday at Middletown Unified School District schools. Rachel”s Challenge is an educational program that started in the wake of the 1999 Columbine High School massacre. The program aims to spread kindness and understanding instead of physical violence and intimidation.

Shop local

HIT: Lake Co-op reported that its Community Supported Agriculture boxes were sourced entirely from Lake County farms this past week.

Not fair

MISS: Neighbors in the area cordoning off sections of the neighborhood and charging $5 for parking on a public street.
