COVELO — Crews made progress Thursday night against the North Pass Fire, which held at 41,983 acres and reached 72 percent containment, CAL FIRE reported Friday morning.
Officials expect full containment to occur Monday, according to the U.S. Forest Service (USFS).
The incident, caused by lightning on Aug. 18, is currently 75 percent in federal land and 25 percent in the state responsibility area, according to CAL FIRE. It burns near Mendocino Pass Road northeast of Covelo.
To date, seven homes and nine outbuildings were destroyed. Another 11 homes, two commercial properties and 16 outbuildings remain threatened. Nine undisclosed injuries were reported.
Evacuations were lifted for a majority of the Bauer Ranch Subdivision.
Evacuations remain in effect for Indian Dick Road (Forest Road M-1) in all areas north of the USFS gate at Boardman Ridge Campground and for Mendocino Pass Road (Forest Highway 7) in all areas east of Benchmark 2444 (second driveway entrance to Bauer subdivision) to Forest Road M-4.
All areas of the Covelo Ranger District north of Mendocino Pass Road to the Six Rivers and Shasta-Trinity National Forest boundaries are closed.
Response, which currently involves 901 fire personnel, is a unified command effort between CAL FIRE and the USFS.
