CROCKETT — One week after being blown out in their season opener against the Upper Lake Cougars, the Kelseyville Knights returned the favor.
Quarterback John Mark Reagan rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns and passed for another 101 yards and a score as the Knights hammered the John Swett Indians 43-14 in a non-league varsity football game Friday night in Crockett.
“John Mark had a real good game running and passing the ball,” Kelseyville coach Rob Ishihara said of his senior signal caller. “And the line did the job in front of him.”
Kelseyville (1-1) received the opening kickoff and Reagan scored on the third play from scrimmage, scrambling for a 57-yard touchdown. The Knights recovered the ensuing onside kick and Reagan scored again on a 28-yard run to make it 13-0.
“We kind of got the momentum going in our favor for a change and it was real nice,” Ishihara said.
The Knights pushed their lead to 29-0 by halftime on touchdown runs by Robert McLean of 4 yards and Dasan Vasquez of 1 yard in the second quarter. Vasquez ran in the two-point conversion following both scores.
Kelseyville added insurance touchdowns in the second half. The first came on a 24-yard pass from Reagan to McLean in the third quarter, and Vasquez scored on a 4-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Vasquez finished with 85 yards on 16 carries while McLean added 76 on nine.
Zac Cocco anchored the Kelseyville defense with five solo tackles, one assist, one sack and a fumble recovery.
“The defense did a great job,” Ishihara said.
Kelseyville hosts Esparto next Friday.
