LAKE COUNTY ? Mount Konocti will be closed until further notice for recreation, because of the fire burning near Blue Lakes, according to Supervisor Rob Brown. Highland Springs will also be closed to hunting. These are precautions taken by the county in order to prevent more fire danger.
Nearly 550 firefighters are tending to a wildfire that broke out Friday afternoon on Cow Mountain west of Scotts Valley Road.
On Saturday morning the blaze was 5 percent contained with flames visible from long distances. The fire has scorched 1,600 acres, according to CAL FIRE.
An evacuation order was put in place on Friday night, and later that evening lifted. CAL FIRE reports that more than 300 structures may be at-risk.
There are currently 15 fire crews, with 68 engines, three airtankers, three helicopters, eight bulldozers and a water tender on scene. No date has been released for containment of the fire.
Dubbed the “Scotts Fire,” it is burning in Lake County eight miles east of Ukiah. The cause is unknown.
