LAKE COUNTY — Fires crews contained one fire and are close to containing another fire burning in neighboring counties Tuesday.
The 16 Complex Fire, an incident composed of two fires burning four miles apart off Highway 16 in Colusa County, was 100 percent contained as of Tuesday morning, according to CAL FIRE.
The North Pass Fire burning northeast of Covelo in Mendocino County was 97 percent contained Tuesday with full containment expected by Friday, according to Mendocino National Forest (MNF) officials.
The 16 Complex Fire was contained one week after starting for unknown reasons in the Rumsey Canyon area south of Highway 20 and scorched 17,944 acres.
Nearly 1,000 fire personnel are still assigned to the fire area to perform fire suppression repair and mop-up. Six undisclosed injuries were reported from the incident.
Crews and equipment will continue to be released from the incident, according to CAL FIRE.
Highway 16 is open. Motorists are advised to use extra caution and to be alert for fire vehicles and the possibility of debris on the roadway.
The North Pass Fire burned 41,983 acres since lightning ignited it Aug. 18.
A total of 26 structures were destroyed by the blaze, with four others sustaining damage.
Nearly 400 fire personnel remain assigned to the fire area. Nine undisclosed injuries were reported to date. Smoke continues to impact nearby communities.
Management of the fire was transitioned to the Arizona All Hazard Incident Management Team as of 6 a.m. Tuesday. The base camp and incident command post are located at Round Valley Airport.
MNF roads in the area remain closed as of Tuesday because of ongoing fire suppression repair work.
