Is anybody listening?
San Francisco Chronicle columnist John Diaz recently wrote that the two political conventions cost the American taxpayers $18 million each plus a total of $100 million for security purposes.
In this time of mounting deficits, unemployment, homelessness, millions of property loss because of hurricane and forest fire damage, etc., isn”t it time to stop such flagrant waste, only to provide a three-ring circus with celebrities who add nothing to the political process? The candidates have already been chosen by state primaries; accepting the nomination is merely an extravagant formality that we should not expect the American public to tolerate in the future.
We have four years to effect some changes in this shameful process before another national election. Is anyone out there listening?
