LAKEPORT — Kristy Hayes scored twice and Hannah Norwood added a goal and two assists to propel the Clear Lake Cardinals to a 4-0 victory over Fort Bragg in the North Central League I opener for both of these varsity girls” soccer teams Tuesday afternoon at Lakeport.
“The Norwood sisters had a good night,” Clear Lake coach Paul Larrea said.
Emily Norwood assisted on sister Hannah”s goal in the second half to make it a 3-0 game.
Madison Wynacht also scored for the Cardinals (1-0, 5-4-2), who had Kelcie Reyonds and Emily Hayes back in the starting lineup.
“Kelcie did an outstanding job,” Larrea said. “It was good to have her back.”
Clear Lake scored two goals in each half.
Other standouts for the Cardinals were Nadine Bradley and Heather Werner on defense.

Middletown 9, Lower Lake 0
At Middletown, Emily Reed and Ashlyn Welton scored two goals apiece and the Middletown Mustangs cruised past the Lower Lake Trojans in the NCL I opener for both teams.
Seven different players scored for the Mustangs (1-0, 6-0), who juggled their lineup in the second half after outscoring the Trojans 6-0 in the first half. Defenders Ashley Hart and Maria Castaldo were moved up to forward and both players scored goals – it was the first of Castaldo”s high school career.
Kaleigh Alves, Paloma Colacion and Hannah Diaz also scored for the Mustangs.
Six players also had assists, including Dani Rossi and Reed, who both assisted on Castaldo”s goal.
? Kelseyville 1, Willits 1 (tie)
At Kelseyville, the Kelseyville Knights battled the Willits Wolverines to a draw in the NCL I opener for both teams.

Boys” soccer
Willits 5, Kelseyville 1
At Willits, in a physical battle to open the NCL I season for both teams, the Willits Wolverines overpowered the Kelseyville Knights.
Willits outscored Kelseyville 4-1 in the second half to break open 1-0 game at halftime.
“Intimidation,” Kelseyville coach Eduardo Ledesma said of Willits” approach to the league opener. “There”s not much more I can ask from my team. They”re all young players.”
Cristian Macias scored for the Knights (0-1, 1-3).
Kelseyville dropped a 2-1 non-league decision to Calistoga on Saturday in Kelseyville. Elias Alvarez scored for the Knights.
Lower Lake 5, Middletown 1
At Lower Lake, in the NCL I opener for both teams, Orlando Orozco scored three times to power the Lower Lake Trojans to a win over the Middletown Mustangs.
Mauricio Jaregui and Ruben Orozco also scored for the Trojans (1-0, 2-0-1). Diego Villalobos had two assists.
Ramon Mayorga”s play at keeper — he allowed a penalty kick by Middletown”s Eric Lopez in the first half — powered the Lower Lake defense, according to coach Dan Griffin.
“The defense was strong,” Griffin said. “The kids played their hearts out.”
Middletown (0-1, 0-3) trailed just 2-1 at the half.
“The (final) score was misleading,” Middletown coach Chuck Rannells said. “By far our best performance of the season.”
Middletown played a man down, the result of a red card in its previous game.
Standouts for Middletown were Lopez on offense and Nick Santos on defense, according to Rannells.
Volleyball
Clear Lake def. Rincon Valley
At Lakeport, the Clear Lake Cardinals beat Rincon Valley Christian in the minimum three games, 25-18, 25-19, 25-16, in non-league action.
Aliza Atkins, Rachel Wingler and Anna Westin had four kills apiece for the Cardinals. Westin also had two blocks.
“Morgan (Psalmonds) did a great job distributing the ball,” Psalmonds said of her daughter and setter, who had 16 assists and 10 digs on defense. “She was able to get the ball to the hitters and the hitters were able to take advantage of it.”
Clear Lake also won the junior varsity match, 25-2, 25-10, behind 20 service points and four aces from Emily Psalmonds and three kills from Logan Robinson.
Middletown def. PUC Prep
At Middletown, Brianna Ortiz and Jenny Hoefer served up four aces apiece as the Middletown Mustangs made quick work of PUC Prep, 25-7, 25-15, 25-16, in non-league action.
Heather Huston and Sophie Marshall led the Mustangs with three kills apiece and foreign exchange student Ida Cronfeld of Denmark had two kills.
“They did very well,” Middletown coach Jennifer Breiner said of her team”s overall effort.
Middletown also won the JV match 25-10, 25-14.
Kelseyville def. Upper Lake
At Kelseyville, the Kelseyville Knights took care of the Upper Lake Cougars in three games, 25-20, 25-12, 25-9, in non-league action.
Abby McQueen pounded out 11 kills to pace the Knights, who were coming off a five-set win over El Molino on Monday. Jeannie Johnson added nine kills and Bonnie McAllister led the team with five aces.
Ashley Lovrin”s five kills led the Cougars and Vanessa Hanson had three blocks.
“We lost our cohesiveness,” Upper Lake coach Sandy Coatney said. “The team sort of disappeared off the court.”
Kelseyville”s JV squad won 25-23, 25-18.
