MIDDLETOWN — The Lake County Milers hosts the fifth annual Crazy Creek Beer & Brat Lite Run/Walk on the morning of Oct. 7 at Crazy Creek Glider Port just north of Middletown off Highway 29.

Children ages 4 through 9 can enjoy half-K and 1K races at 8:30 a.m., while older children and adults can take part in the 5K run/walk at 9 a.m.

All participants will get a souvenir medal and a bratwurst and beer or root beer/soda after finishing the race, which ambles along a flat, partly paved course with no traffic.

Special awards will go to the top three boy and girl winners in each of the children”s races, as well as to the top five men and top five women in the 5K run and the top five finishers in the 5K walk.

New this year is the Crazy Hat Competition, with prizes going to the three contestants wearing the most eccentric hats during the race.

“In the spirit of the locale, we want all participants to get crazy with their headgear,” race co-director Pat Bright, known for jogging around her Hidden Valley Lake neighborhood in various colorful hats, said. “Even if you”re not fast, you can still be flashy.”

The annual fitness event, which drew more than 120 entrants and their families in 2011, returns this year to the Crazy Creek Glider Port, located at 18896 Grange Road, about a half-mile off Highway 29.

Early registration is through Sept. 21 and costs $15 for adults and $8 for children ages 16 and younger. After Sept. 21 and through race day, all fees will increase by $5.

Registration is available online at RunSignUp.com; there is a $2.50 per entry convenience charge. Participants may also print a registration form available at the Milers” website, www.lakecountrymilers.com. For entry form and other instructions, call John Sullivan at 987-3229.

The Milers running and walking group meets Saturday mornings in two locations: the parking lot of Hardester”s Hidden Valley Lake shopping center, located at the Hartman Road exit off Highway 29 and in Kelseyville at 3990 Main St. The public is invited. Longer training runs are generally scheduled for Sundays.
