LAKEPORT — The Lake County Children”s Council, funded by the Community-Based Grants for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (CBCAP), holds its first meeting of the 2012-13 fiscal year Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. at Lake County Office of Education.

The Children”s Council, which is celebrating its 20th year of service, works to distribute child abuse prevention information and resources, support direct services to prevent child abuse, sponsor events and opportunities to educate communities on issues impacting children and families, and facilitate trainings to professionals and community members in the detection, treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect.

This year, the council has prioritized prevention services for pregnant women and parents with infants and awards mini-grants to agencies in the county that provide prevention services to those families.

The public can also participate in two upcoming council-sponsored lunchtime learning sessions: one titled “Father Involvement” on Oct. 10 from noon to 1 p.m. and the other, “Strengthening Families,” on Nov. 13 from noon to 1 p.m.

Both sessions will be held in the Kesey Room at Lake County Office of Education, 1152 S. Main St. in Lakeport.

The sessions are free and serve to provide relevant information to service providers and the community. To register, visit www.lakecoe.org or call 262-4146.
