Thanks to firefighters

HIT: Quick response by state and county fire officials helped slow the wildfire burning on Cow Mountain near Scotts Valley Road. The Scotts Fire started Sept. 7, burned 4,618 acres. Full containment was accomplished Friday.

HIT: Fire personnel fully contained a pair of wildland blazes burning off Highway 16 near Rumsey Canyon in Colusa County. Crews are closing in on full containment of the North Pass Fire northeast of Covelo.

Graduates honored

HIT: A dozen people who completed the first three phases of the Lake County Day Reporting Center (DRC) were honored during a transition ceremony Wednesday evening at The Lodge at Blue Lakes.

Stuff-A-Bus set

HIT: The third annual Stuff-A-Bus takes place Oct. 27, on national Make A Difference Day. Volunteers load donated non-perishable food into an empty Lake Transit Bus.

HIT: Donors contributed 6,310 pounds of food at last year”s event. All of the food benefits people in Lake County.

HIT: The event is a collaborative effort of the Lake County Hunger Task Force, Lake Transit Authority, Lake County Office of Education AmeriCorps Program and North Coast Opportunities, Inc. Community Action.

Channel 8 fee in limbo

HIT: The Lake County Board of Supervisors (BOS) is taking its time in deciding whether to create a charge that would be passed through to Mediacom cable subscribers to benefit the county”s public, educational and governmental access television station.

MISS: The proposal has been under BOS consideration for more than 10 months.

Cleaning up

HIT: The Clearlake City Council gave consensus for staff to draft a new code enforcement ordinance.

MISS: There is a lot of work for code enforcement officers in the city.

Making room for more

HIT: Improvements are under way at the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility making room for more inmates because of the state”s public safety realignment.

MISS: Individual cells at the correctional facility are filling up, creating overflow problems for inmates who are not considered a danger to others.

HIT: Undersheriff Pat Turturici said he is working on addressing the Board of Supervisors to prepare a needs-assessement for the facility.

Veterans” input sought

Art for everyone

HIT: The Lake County Arts Council”s Art in Public Places offers artists who could not otherwise afford the cost of exhibiting in a gallery, an opportunity to display their works.

On the sports front

HIT: Middletown running back Austin Benson rushed for 188 yards and four touchdowns in a 28-8 win over Upper Lake. He also caught two passes and recovered a fumble while playing on defense.

HIT: Thanks to those fall sports coaches at Clear Lake, Kelseyville, Lower Lake, Middletown and Upper Lake high schools who took the time to be interviewed and in some cases helped set up photos shoots for the annual Fall Sports Section, which comes out Wednesday.
