KELSEYVILLE — Robert McLean rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns Friday night as Kelseyville High School shut out the Esparto Spartans 36-0 in a costly non-league home victory for the Knights.
Kelseyville (2-1) lost quarterback John Mark Reagan to a shoulder injury in the first quarter and later lost fullback Dasan Vasquez to an ankle injury. Coach Rob Ishihara said he doesn”t expect to have either player back anytime soon.
“I imagine it”s going to be at least two weeks for John Mark,” Ishihara said. “Those guys are key to what we do on offense.”
Kelseyville, a winner of two straight, built a 29-0 halftime lead on alternating McLean and Kevin Duty touchdown runs. McLean scored on a 17-yard run and Duty broke loose on a 70-yard run in the first quarter, then McLean scored again on a 3-yard run in the second quarter followed by a Duty 5-yard run a few minutes later.
McLean”s third and final score came on a 3-yard run in the third quarter. He also had a pair of two-point conversions. Duty finished with 94 yards.
Jacob Martinek filled in for Reagan at quarterback.
“Martinek did a good job running the offense,” Ishihara said.
Kelseyville”s defense forced four turnovers. Preston Herdt had a fumble recovery and a sack.
“The defense played well tonight,” Ishihara said. “Esparto (0-4) is a little beat up. They only had four or five reserves.”
