LAKEPORT — Three games, three wins and not a point allowed by the Clear Lake High School junior varsity football team following a 52-0 non-league victory over South Fork on Friday night in Lakeport.

Clear Lake (3-0) jumped out to a 20-0 lead after one quarter on the strength of 2- and 38-yard touchdowns runs by Marty Sugimoto, who made his first start at running for the Cardinals. Doobie Jones” touchdown on a 15-yard sweep play capped the scoring in the quarter.

The Cardinals continued to add their lead in the second quarter. Jones returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown, Cole Brodnansky scored on a 75-yard toss play, and Jeffrey Morton added a 2-yard touchdown run following a 27-yard interception return by teammate Leon Fred.

Clear Lake”s final two scores came on quarterback Deshawn White”s 45-yard keeper in the third quarter and John Vertrees” 75-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Brodnansky finished with 121 yards on only three carries. He also caught a two-point PAT and kicked a PAT.

On defense, Brodnansky led the team with eight tackles, including a sack. Vertrees had four tackles with two sacks.

“We we”re happy with the effort and the execution from the kids, but South Fork was a little beat up coming in and only had 15 players suit up,” Clear Lake coach Tom O”Rourke said.

“Next week will be a different story. Fort Bragg is always tough, especially at home and they”re well-coached, so we”ll have our hands full dealing with them.”

Clear Lake travels to Fort Bragg for its North Central League I opener on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
