Don”t jump to conclusions. I still think highly of the death penalty for appropriate crimes, particularly child-rape and murder.
The fact that some people worry that one of the last 13 prisoners executed may have been innocent doesn”t bother me at all.
What does bother me a great deal is that it takes so long to execute an execution that it is economically unimaginable.
The sentenced felons get all sorts of appeals, health care, dental care and quarters much nicer than some of the college dorms I can remember.
I think their sentences should be changed to life without chance of parole, they should be placed in the general population where they likely would have a less luxurious life. And the state would save an awful lot of funding.
I see no reason that despicable felons should be afforded a level of life denied to many who are well below the poverty line.
For me, the last straw came with the news article about the convicted murderer in Massachusetts who, for whatever reason, decided to change sexual-orientation.
A court has said that she (now, I think) deserves to be given the surgical procedures to change her physical self to fit her mental self. How much for the government to pay?
Would you believe something like $550,000. To me, something is wrong!
