RANCHO PALOS VERDES — Marymount College announced Thursday the proposal of two new master”s degrees for the college to offer starting in the fall of 2013, pending approval from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

“The value to Lake County is that local students will benefit from enrolling in graduate coursework, and students from both Lake County and Southern California will be engaged in research and projects to benefit communities,” college representative Kelly Curtis Intagliata stated.

The college”s board of trustees and the county of Lake entered into a memorandum of understanding in June to proceed with the development of a campus at the Lucerne Hotel.

Both parties anticipate the lease being completed in time for the lease-signing celebration, currently set for Oct. 30, Curtis stated.

The two proposed degrees are: Master of Science in community psychology and Master of Science in leadership and community development.

“A master”s degree is becoming increasingly important in today”s ultra-competitive job market. And since our goal has always been to offer courses that will give our students an edge in the workplace and beyond, the next logical step is for us to offer master”s degree programs,” college president Michael Brophy stated.

The college currently offers bachelor”s degrees in liberal arts, media studies, business and psychology at its two campuses, located in Rancho Palos Verdes and San Pedro.

Bachelor”s and master”s programs would be available to students who attend classes at its Southern California campuses and its anticipated future campus in Lucerne.
