Restaurants strive for success
HIT: The owners of two Lakeport eateries ? Jimmy”s Deli & Taqueria and Angelina”s Bakery & Espresso ? took the time this week to share some of the strategies they use to keep customers coming through the doors.
HIT: Experienced restaurateurs Jack McCormack (Jack”s Place Lakeport) and Jan Mezoui (Zino”s on the Lake) talked about some of the new ideas they”re implementing to generate more business.
HIT: Tutti Frutti (frozen yogurt shop) in Lakeport and Bobby”s Place (restaurant) in Clearlake are among the eateries to open up during the past few months in Lake County.
Water/sewer discussion continued
HIT: The Lakeport City Council decided to continue its discussion of proposed increases to water and sewer rates until its next meeting after a roughly three-hour hearing Tuesday.
HIT: Tuesday”s meeting was well attended, with approximately 100 people packing Lakeport City Hall.
Tree saves truck from wet fate
MISS: A McKinleyville woman may have fallen asleep at the wheel of her pickup Wednesday morning before it went off Highway 20 in Lucerne, rolled down an embankment and came to rest against a tree, according to the California Highway Patrol.
HIT: The tree likely prevented the truck from rolling into Clear Lake.
Felon set for prison release
MISS: James W. Nightingale will be released from prison on Monday, the two-year anniversary of the fatal hit-and-run he was convicted of causing. Jan Mezoui, whose husband Zino died in the crash, was “shocked” at receiving news of the impending release.
Unemployment drops
HIT: Lake County”s preliminary August joblessness rate was 14 percent ? the lowest level in recent years. Additions to the farming industry contributed significantly to the decrease.
Forces join for huge sweep
HIT: The Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO) conducted drug operations in Jerusalem Valley and Upper Lake this week with the help of more than a dozen county, state and federal agencies.
HIT: Officials arrested 17 people, eradicated more than 1,500 marijuana plants and seized equipment, firearms and cash during the two days.
Detectives to be cross-deputized
HIT: Two LCSO narcotics detectives will be cross-deputized as Drug Enforcement Administration task force officers on Oct. 1. They”ll investigate narcotic-related offenses on a federal level and seek federal prosecution of major drug offenses within Lake County and the surrounding area.
Water and annexation
HIT: The Board of Supervisors approved sending letters to the Lakeport City Council urging a joint meeting about providing water to residents in the South Lakeport area.
MISS: City officials again expressed desire to provide water to residents and businesses in the area by annexing the area, a move the county opposes.
Tense representation discussion
HIT: The Board of Supervisors approved drafting an agreement to provide Sheriff Frank Rivero private legal counsel in an ongoing legal matter.
MISS: The discussion included tense exchanges between the sheriff and two county supervisors.
Fire woes continue
MISS: A small brush fire at Big Valley Rancheria quickly got out of hand, scorching seven acres and igniting a second spot fire Thursday evening.
HIT: Fire crews were able to contain the blaze within 90 minutes.
