WILLITS — The Willits Wolverines parlayed 16 first-quarter points into an easy 32-0 victory over the Kelseyville Knights in the North Central League I opener for both of these varsity football teams Friday night at Maize Field.

Willits” defense pretty much took took things from there as the Knights (0-1, 2-2), minus injured starting quarterback John Mark Reagan and fullback Dasan Vasquez, didn”t do much when they had the football. Kelseyville finished with just 115 yards of total offense.

“They definitely have a good team and a good defense,” Kelseyville coach Rob Ishihara said of the Wolverines (1-0, 3-1). “It was pretty tough for us. We definitely felt the loss of John Mark and Dasan.”

Pressed into the starting job after Reagan went down with a broken collarbone last week against Esparto, quarterback Jacob Martinek completed just 3 of 12 passes for 24 yards with two picks.

Ishihara said Martinek did as well as could be expected given the circumstances because he is still learning the offense.

Robert McLean rushed for 53 yards on 16 carries for Kelseyville. The Knights did threaten toward the end of the first half, but a fourth-and-goal run from the Willits 2 was stuffed by the Wolverines.
