SONOMA — Sonoma authorities arrested a Lake County man hours after he allegedly tried to drive into a deputy during a traffic stop and fled the area early Saturday.

Cameron Selva, 20, was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on six charges stemming from the run-in with Sonoma city deputies, Sgt. Spencer Crum stated.

The incident started just after midnight Saturday when a deputy tried to stop the GMC pickup for a mechanical violation, Crum stated.

Selva allegedly failed to provide identification and then gave the deputy a false name.

When the deputy began to ask Selva about his true identity, he started the truck”s ignition, Crum stated.

The deputy and a backup deputy, who arrived on scene, told Selva to stop and turn off the truck, but Selva didn”t follow orders and put the truck in reverse, Crum stated.

The backup deputy tried to use his Taser on Selva by deploying it through the open passenger-side window, but the device was ineffective because the truck already began backing up, Crum stated.

Selva allegedly backed into a patrol car and then drove forward, swerving into the traffic lane and in the direction of the deputy who stood at the driver-side window.

The deputy jumped out of the path of the truck, which sideswiped a parked Mercedes as it sped off, Crum stated. Both deputies ran toward their patrol cars to pursue the pickup, but they lost sight of it.

Authorities later located the truck parked several blocks away but couldn”t find the driver.

Crum stated officials contacted the truck”s registered owner, who confirmed that Selva was the driver.

A deputy saw Selva walking behind the Sonoma Library about 3 p.m. Saturday, Crum stated. He was arrested without incident.

Selva, who was known to frequent Sonoma, was booked on charges of felony assault on a peace officer, hit and run, providing false identification to a peace officer, resisting arrest, failing to yield to officers and driving on a suspended license. His bail was set at $300,000.
