I noticed in the Record-Bee that Kenny Parlet was going to run for Lakeport City Council. I have known Kenny Parlet since he was very young and I knew his dad very well. A lot of people do not know that long before Lakeview Market was in Lucerne, Kenny and his dad were in business in Lakeport. Lakeview Market and the Parlets were part of the Lakeport business community for many years. I am glad to see that he is running for city council. I am not a city resident myself and I believe he will make an excellent representative serving on the city council, because he has been on both sides of the fence for a long time. I can remember when Kenny and his dad fought the County of Lake tooth-and-nail to build a recreational center for parents and kids, which included a skating rink.

The timing was right because we lost the one that was at the old Clear Lake High School, where the Del Lago subdivision is build at this time.

As you know the county denied the plan. Bad thinking on the County”s part. All these years the kids would have had a place to go and skating is a place for both kids and parents to enjoy.

That property is located at the corner of Highway 29 and Hopland Road, which later became a part-time golf course.

Kenny and his dad were willing to build a nice building on that property for the center. We ended up spending the money in our court system on the problems with kids when the county could have been collecting taxes for many years and have revenue from a business that this day and age would still be thriving. But the county politics from the past turned it down. I give him credit by putting his energy to help the citizens of Lakeport.
