COBB MOUNTAIN — A vegetation fire on Cobb Mountain burned approximately one-quarter acre Thursday before fire crews contained it.

The fire was first reported about 1:20 p.m. in the 8500 block of Harrington Flat Road, according to CAL FIRE Battalion Chief Mike Wink.

Wink said CAL FIRE and South Lake County Fire Protection District crews arrived on scene about 1:45 p.m. Five fire engines, three airplanes, two hand crews, one water tender and one helicopter worked to contain the blaze within 30 minutes.

Wink said crews were expected to remain on scene for approximately two hours for mop-up. He said crews would monitor the area during the weekend because hot and dry weather was expected.

He said nearby homes and PG&E high-power transition lines in the area were threatened but not damaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
