LAKEPORT — The man convicted of causing the triple-fatal car crash near Twin Lakes in January withdrew his request to be released from jail temporarily this weekend to attend his daughter”s wedding.
Michael James Wright, 50, was sentenced to one year in the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility on Sept. 25 after pleading no contest to three misdemeanor counts of gross vehicular manslaughter.
His attorney, R. Steven Brown, filed a motion to modify the sentence three days later, asking the court to consider releasing Wright on Oct. 21 for his daughter”s ceremony.
However, Brown submitted a handwritten note on Friday informing the court Wright wanted to withdraw his request.
Authorities said Wright, a longtime CAL FIRE captain, drove a BMW sedan about 84 mph along Highway 29 south of downtown Lower Lake the night of Jan. 14 when he crashed into a Ford SUV.
Wright”s three passengers — longtime girlfriend Kari Lynn Marks, 53, her daughter Jena Marie Marks, 24, and Jena”s boyfriend Patrick Earl Campbell, 27 — died in the collision.
