NICE — A Lucerne man suffered major head injuries after he reportedly rode his motorcycle recklessly and crashed into a power pole on the Nice-Lucerne Cutoff late Saturday afternoon.

Ramsey Wade Milks, 39, remained in critical condition at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with a cranial fracture and brain swelling, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated Saturday night.

Milks drove his 1982 Yamaha 500 motorcycle on the Highway 29 off-ramp for the Nice-Lucerne Cutoff and illegally passed a vehicle on the left without stopping at the stop sign, according to the CHP.

Milks allegedly continued riding recklessly at a high rate of speed while on the cutoff east of Lakeshore Boulevard.

He allowed his motorcycle to leave the paved roadway and lost control on the soft dirt and gravel shoulder bordering the eastbound lane about 5:10 p.m., according to the CHP.

The left handlebar struck a power pole, and the impact threw Milks into the pole, the CHP stated.

Milks was transported by REACH helicopter to the Santa Rosa hospital. There were no updates on his condition Monday morning.
