CLEARLAKE — A Clearlake man was arrested on stolen vehicle and evasion charges early Tuesday following a high-speed motorcycle chase on residential streets.
Clearlake Police Officer Mike Ray responded to a report of a stolen motorcycle Monday about 9:15 p.m. Ray took the information and entered it into the department”s stolen vehicle system.
About 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, Ray was patrolling on Olympic Drive and saw a motorcycle similar to the one reported stolen heading westbound.
According to Clearlake Police Lt. Tim Celli, Ray attempted to stop the motorcycle for vehicle code violations when the motorcyclist accelerated to a high rate of speed.
Celli stated the motorcyclist led Ray on a pursuit for about one mile, reaching speeds of 50 mph on residential streets.
The motorcyclist lost control of the vehicle near the intersection of Laskey and West 40th avenues and crashed.
Celli stated the man was uninjured and allegedly got up and ran. Ray initiated a foot pursuit and deployed his K-9 partner, “Harley.”
Harley reportedly located the man in an alleyway between West 40th and Palmer avenues.
The man was reportedly identified as Shade Hill, 29, of Clearlake.
Celli stated the motorcycle Hill was allegedly riding was determined to be the stolen motorcycle reported to Ray. It was reportedly repainted in an attempt to disguise it.
The motorcycle was later released to the registered owner.
Hill was arrested on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property and evasion. He was transported and booked into the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility.
