ST. HELENA — Nadine Bradley”s second goal of the game, a penalty kick with two minutes remaining, snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted the Clear Lake Cardinals to a North Central League I varsity girls” soccer win over the St. Helena Saints on Thursday afternoon in St. Helena.
Bradley”s first goal gave Clear Lake (8-4, 13-8-1) a 1-0 lead midway through the first half. St. Helena tied it right before halftime.
Clear Lake”s seniors, including Bradley, stepped up to beat the Saints on their homefield, which has been a tough place for the Cardinals to win in recent seasons.
“My seniors did great,” Clear Lake coach Paul Larrea said of Bradley, Emily Norwood, Kristen McKinney and Kristy Hayes.
Norwood had the assist on Bradley”s first goal and McKinney turned in a solid effort in the midfield, according to Larrea. Hayes played at forward, in the midfield and as a marking back.
“She played all over the place,” Larrea said.
Other standouts for Clear Lake were Mina Werner, Ciera Moreno and Adriana Guardado on defense.

Middletown 10, Kelseyville 0
At Middletown, Hannah Diaz scored three times and assisted on three other goals as the Middletown Mustangs shut out the Kelseyville Knights in NCL I action.
Middletown (11-0-1, 16-0-1) needs a win on Tuesday at Cloverdale (10-0-2) to clinch the league championship. A Cloverdale victory would move the Eagles into sole possession of first.
Kaleigh Alves and Rosie Emerson each had two goals for the Mustangs. One of Alves” goals was a header off a Diaz corner kick.
Middletown led 3-0 after the first half.
Boys” soccer
Kelseyville 3, Middletown 2
At Middletown, Kelseyville”s Elias Alvarez scored with eight minutes remaining to snap a 2-2 tie and lift the Knights to a league win over the Middletown Mustangs, who led 1-0 and 2-1 in the game.
Kyler Baldwin and Brandon Rannells scored for the Mustangs (0-10-1, 0-13-1). Jorge Morales assisted on both Middletown goals.
Cristian Macias and Luis Rodriguez scored Kelseyville”s first two goals.
The difference in the game was the play of Kelseyville”s midfield, according to coach Eduardo Ledesma.
“We had a lot of people move in and out of the midfield (including Macias, Rodriguez and Alvarez) and I think that”s why we came through,” Ledesma said. “The midfield did a good job.”
Lower Lake 2, Cloverdale 2 (tie)
At Cloverdale, despite playing two men down the entire game, the Cloverdale Eagles scored midway through the second half to wipe out a 2-1 Lower Lake lead and tie the Trojans in NCL I action.
“They wanted it more than we did,” Lower Lake coach Dan Griffin said.
The Eagles were minus two players because of red cards received in their last game.
“The last 10 minutes we took eight shots, some real rockets,” Griffin said. “When nothing goes in you”ve got to take your lumps.”
Lower Lake built a 2-1 halftime lead on the strength of goals by Jose Galvan and Mauricio Jaregui. Diego Villalobos and Galvan had assists.
Volleyball
Clear Lake def. Willits
At Willits, Clear Lake”s passing game came back online and the Cardinals (9-1) breezed past the Willits Wolverines 25-3, 25-17, 25-19 in NCL I volleyball action.
“It was the complete opposite from Tuesday”s match,” Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds said of a four-set win over Cloverdale. “We passed the ball real well and everyone did their job.”
Anna Westin and Haley Garzoli led the way with seven kills apiece, Rachel Winger had five kills and a team-high four aces, setter Morgan Psalmonds added four kills as well as 25 assists, and Aliza Atkins had four kills and eight digs. Westin also had a team-best four blocks.
Clear Lake also won the junior varsity match 25-19, 25-19 behind four kills from Joleca Augustine and three aces and one kill from Logan Robinson.
Tomales def. Upper Lake
At Upper Lake, sloppy play in the first two games cost the Upper Lake Cougars a chance to beat the Tomales Braves in NCL II action.
While Upper Lake executed much better in the final two games, Tomales went on to win 25-18, 25-18, 23-25, 27-25.
“Hitting and passing errors in the first two games killed us,” Upper Lake coach Sandy Coatney said. “We came out real flat. To the girls” credit, they played real hard in the second two games.”
Sierra Fugate”s 11 kills paced the Cougars and Samantha Maddock added nine more. Vanessa Hanson finished with five kills and two blocks and Carissa Morton had four aces and six digs.
However, the star of the match for the Cougars was Jamie Maddock, who tallied 20 digs along with five aces.
“She did a great job tonight from the back row,” Coatney said.
Kelseyville def. Cloverdale
At Kelseyville, what looked like a cakewalk for Kelseyville instead went the distance as the Knights outlasted the Cloverdale Eagles 25-16, 25-7, 20-25, 23-25, 15-11 in NCL I action.
“We let up off the gas,” Kelseyville coach Donelle McCallister said of Kelseyville”s lopsided victories in the first two games. “Thank God we got it back in the fifth game.”
Alex Pruett didn”t have the most kills for Kelseyville but did log a majority of her eight kills in the deciding fifth game.
“Pruett made the pivotal moves in that last game,” McCallister said.
Jennifer Green had a team-high 19 kills for the Knights (7-3) while Jeannie Johnson added 14 more. Setter Bonnie McCallister had 37 assists.
St. Helena def. Lower Lake
At St. Helena, St. Helena made quick work of the Lower Lake Trojans in NCL I action, winning 25-10, 25-8, 25-15.
“They all seemed off,” Lower Lake coach Niki Doud said of the Trojans” effort.
Adrina Miller led Lower Lake (2-8) with five kills and three blocks. Shelby Harris added two kills and four blocks.
