CLOVERDALE — Eighteen games into his coaching career at Lower Lake High School, varsity football coach Mike Huffman celebrated a first on Friday night – as in first win – as the Trojans beat the Cloverdale Eagles 26-7 in a North Central League I game at Daly Field.
“It was awesome,” Huffman said of career victory No. 1. “The kids did everything expected of them. It was nice to accomplish that mission.”
Lower Lake led 20-0 at halftime on the strength of a Richard Tucker 1-yard scoring run and touchdown runs of 1 and 8 yards by Jared Thompson. The Trojans (1-4, 1-7) went up 26-0 in the fourth quarter on another Tucker 1-yard run.
Lower Lake”s offense gained 288 yards on the ground while the Trojans” defense forced two turnovers and logged six sacks.
Jerald Drummond carried the ball 14 times for 67 yards and had an interception.
