CLEARLAKE — DNA evidence allegedly connected a county jail inmate to a December burglary at Sullivan Tire & Auto Service Co., city police announced Tuesday.
The Clearlake Police Department (CPD) investigated the incident, during which someone smashed a window and tried unsuccessfully to steal the cash register, and sent evidence from the scene to the California Department of Justice, Det. Sgt. Nick Bennett stated.
State officials notified CPD this month that a DNA match connected evidence from the burglary to Clearlake resident Doyle Harris, who was listed in the state database, Bennett stated.
CPD Det. Tim Alvarado contacted Harris, 23, at the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility, where he was booked on an unrelated case, Bennett stated.
Harris allegedly admitted to the burglary after being questioned and confronted with the DNA evidence.
The case was forwarded to the Lake County District Attorney”s Office. CPD asks anyone with additional information about the incident to contact Alvarado at 994-8251.
