LAKE COUNTY ? After collecting almost 1 billion pills during the Medication Emancipation pill drop offs in June the past two years, the Robinson Rancheria Police Department will now collect pills year round beginning December.
Sgt. Frank Gudmundson, Robinson Rancheria Educational Center director, started the call to action after the accidental deaths of children as a result of overdosing on prescription medication in Lake County.
“We want to get it out, educate and get people to start turning in medications,” Gudmundson said.
Residents are encouraged to take unused, prescription pills to the Clearlake, Kelseyville, Clearlake Oaks, Lakeport, Nice, Lucerne and Upper Lake fire stations, no questions asked and free of charge.
Robinson Rancheria PD will then collect the pills for safe disposal the last Friday of every month.
Only pills are to be dropped off, no liquids, needles, inhalers or medical waste will be accepted.
People are advised to take out their pills from the containers and place them in a sealed before turning them in.
