Council supports housing project
HIT: The Lakeport City Council narrowly approved a utility deferral agreement with the developer of a proposed affordable senior apartment complex on Martin Street.
HIT: The council also amended the city manager”s contract to provide her health benefits after the provision was left out of the agreement adopted Nov. 13.
MISS: The amendment didn”t fix all errors with the deal: Margaret Silveira”s name was still misspelled in the contract header.
Shooting suspect pleads out
HIT: A Lakeport man pleaded no contest to two felonies Wednesday for allegedly shooting at someone in the city last June.
Trial set for tribal chair
HIT: Tracey Avila, tribal chair for the Robinson Rancheria Pomo Indians, will stand trial Feb. 27 for a felony theft charge for allegedly stealing while she worked for the Elem Indian Colony.
Teens found safe in Eugene
HIT: Two Lake County teenage girls reported missing Nov. 17 were found safe in Eugene, Ore. last weekend.
Unbuckled toddler hurt in crash
MISS: Two Lakeport women were arrested Nov. 23 after a crash that threw an unbuckled 2-year-old out of her child seat and onto the floorboard.
Man lights motor home mud flap
MISS: A Lower Lake man was arrested Sunday, two days after allegedly trying to set fire to a motor home with his wife inside.
HIT: Once he lit the mud flap, he reportedly had second thoughts and put out the flames.
Emergency repairs
HIT: The Board of Supervisors authorized emergency repairs to a pump system in Upper Lake ahead of a stormy forecast.
MISS: The pump system nearly caused a levee to fail in March 2011.
HIT: The repair work was completed Tuesday afternoon, a few hours after the work was authorized.
MISS: The system is owned by the state.
MISS: State officials could not be reached by county staff to initiate the repairs in time.
Media policy
HIT: The Board of Supervisors adopted a new media policy.
HIT: A county public information officer will distribute news releases to news organizations that did not receive them.
MISS: The policy came about because of a reported dispute between Lake County News and Sheriff Frank Rivero.

Fulfilling a list
HIT: Friends and family are trying to fulfill Genevie Mantooth”s bucket list. Mantooth, 42, has cirrhosis of the liver and is terminally ill.
MISS: The cirrhosis was a complication from a surgical procedure to correct a genetic heart defect.
HIT: Doctors expected her to die before her first birthday. She beat the odds.
HIT: One day after the article ran, a woman called to donate a hot air balloon ride, an item on the bucket list.
On the road, on the run
MISS: Two car crashes occurred Tuesday afternoon; a two-vehicle collision in Nice and a car overturned in Lakeport.
MISS: The man who flipped his car ran from the area. It was reported that drugs or alcohol were suspected in the incident.
A gift to the county
HIT: Toys for Congressman Mike Thompson”s Toys for Kids fundraiser will be purchased at Funtopia in Middletown.
HIT: The annual event provides presents to Lake County youth. This year, 627 are on the gift list.
Murder Trial finally come to an end
HIT: Alejandro Aurelio Arias pleaded no contest to the second-degree murder of Charlane Hill.
MISS: It took more than three years for the trial to take place.
HIT: Waiting until after the trial, Hill”s family can now spread her ashes.
Don”t face judgment
MISS: Political signs remain on display following the Nov. 8 election. Under the State Outdoor Advertising Act, temporary political signs must be removed within 10 days after the election.
Wheels on the bus
HIT: A Caltrans grant will provide $54,000 to help operate Lake Transit services in Lakeport, Upper Lake, Nice, Lucerne, Glenhaven, Clearlake Oaks and Clearlake. The grant is part of $18 million awarded by Caltrans to 105 public transit projects across the state.
HIT: Lake Transit employees, represented by Teamsters Local No. 665, and operations contractor Paratransit Services agreed to meet with a federal mediator. A proposed Teamsters strike was suspended. Service will continue as usual next week.
