LAKEPORT — Four Lake County law enforcement agencies gathered Thursday morning to support children affected by crimes as part of the annual District Attorney”s Office, Victim-Witness Division gift giveaway.
“It”s giving us an opportunity to get in touch with our community and give the kids a little more to look forward to,” Lake County District Attorney Don Anderson said.
Representatives of the Lake County Sheriff”s Office, Clearlake Police Department, Lakeport Police Department and California Highway Patrol Clear Lake Area met outside the Victim-Witness office in Lakeport to collect gifts destined for child victims or the children of adult victims throughout the county.
The officers then deliver the presents to the children”s homes.
“We always like to use law enforcement because it”s giving them an opportunity to go to these houses and do something nice as opposed to responding to a domestic violence call or something like that,” Victim-Witness program administrator Deborah Wallace said.
Nearly 80 Lake County youth will receive presents through the event.
“It”s a good thing Victim-Witness is doing with law enforcement for the community in handing out these gifts to local children. It”s a nice thing to be a part of,” Lakeport Police Chief Brad Rasmussen said.
The presents were donated and wrapped by parishioners of the Parish of St. Mary Immaculate in Lakeport.
