Unsafe stretch of Highway 29
MISS: Lloyd Lee Knight, killed Tuesday morning while riding his bicycle near Clayton Creek Road, was the fifth person in less than a year to die in a crash within a mile-long stretch of Highway 29 south of Lower Lake.
Man succumbs to crash injuries
MISS: Robert Roberts, 80, of Clearlake Oaks died in December from injuries he sustained in a Nov. 20 crash at the “Y” intersection of highways 20 and 53.
MISS: The Roberts crash occurred the day before two men were killed in crash in front of the Clearlake Oaks Moose Lodge.
Double murderer put away
HIT: A judge sentenced Robby Alan Beasley to life in prison without parole Tuesday for killing a Maine couple in Lower Lake almost three years ago.
MISS: Beasley, convicted by a jury Dec. 13, did not admit culpability during his sentencing and instead lashed out at his co-defendant ? the key prosecution witness.
New judge sworn in
HIT: More than 125 people crammed into a courtroom and crowded outside its doors to watch Michael S. Lunas take the oath of office to become superior court judge Monday.

Judge denies inmate release
MISS: Despite being in custody on two attempted-murder charges, Dennis Leroy Cato, 64, asked a judge to release him from jail for medical reasons Monday.
HIT: Judge Richard C. Martin denied the request, saying the allegations were “about as serious as charges can get.”
Intoxicated drivers beware
HIT: The Lake County DA”s Office received a $150,000 grant to fund a “vertical prosecution team” that will work DUI cases from arrest through sentencing.
