KELSEYVILLE — Lake County Sheriff”s deputies safely destroyed a pipe bomb found in a field near Soda Bay Road and Sacramento Perch Drive Tuesday morning, a department spokesman announced.
A county Public Works Department employee found the device about 20 feet from the edge of Soda Bay Road about 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, Lake County Sheriff”s Lt. Steve Brooks stated.
The item was described as a 6-inch piece of PVC pipe with caps on each end, Brooks stated. One end appeared to have a fuse sticking out of it.
Deputies arrived on scene, evaluated the situation and moved the pipe bomb a safe distance away from the public and the roadway before destroying it, according to Brooks. Remaining pieces of the device were collected for forensic evidence analysis.
