KENTFIELD — Marin Catholic made quick work of the Middletown Mustangs in the opening round of the North Coast Section Division IV boys” basketball playoffs on Wednesday night in Kentfield, rolling to a 76-37 victory.
In his third season as Middletown”s varsity head coach, G.J. Rockwell has guided the Mustangs to the Division IV playoffs every year. The Mustangs lost 50-44 to Arcata in first-round action in 2011 and came even closer to winning last year, falling 45-42 to Piedmont in the opening round. There was no such suspense this time around.
Marin Catholic (22-7), the No. 3 seed and Marin County Athletic League champion this season, led 40-17 at halftime and 59-26 after three quarters.
Middletown (19-7), the runner-up in the North Central League I this season, graduates four seniors — team captains Tyler Rockwell and Ben Pike as well as Blaine Amos and Jared Carrillo.
Individual scoring was not reported to the Lake County Record-Bee.
