LAKEPORT — Mary McCallister and Abby McQueen won the final match of the day, beating Faith Hornby and Serena Kacharos 6-3, 6-3 in second doubles, to lift the Kelseyville Knights to a 3-2 tennis win over the Clear Lake Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon in Lakeport.
The two evenly matched teams battled it out in all three singles and both doubles matches.
“It was a very exciting match,” Clear Lake coach Milo Meyer said.
Kelseyville also picked up wins in first and second singles. Kyle Schmidt defeated Kenny Henninger 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 in No. 1 singles while Max Lehman turned back Raul Rendon 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) in No. 2 singles.
Clear Lake”s wins came in No. 3 singles as Tamara Rojas beat Claire Vargas 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) and in No. 1 doubles where Brian Gatton and Nathan Harper defeated Aaron Fultz and Justin Lombardo 7-5, 6-2.
“That was a big win for Tamara,” Meyer said of the No. 3 singles match.
While Clear Lake fell to 0-2 on the season, Gatton and Harper are 2-0 in first doubles.
In an exhibition doubles match, Kelseyville”s Drew Ashby and Mike Doung beat Ronan O”Rourke and Bailey Elkington 6-4, 4-1.
Clear Lake returns to action March 22 in Middletown.
