LAKEPORT — A judge Monday sentenced a Clearlake Oaks man to serve nearly a decade in state prison for stabbing another man at a party last September.
Wearing black and white jail stripes, Daryl Eugene Ney moved anxiously in his seat but showed little facial reaction as Judge Andrew S. Blum announced the nine-year term during an afternoon hearing at the Lake County Courthouse.
Ney, 51, accepted a plea bargain Jan. 29, pleading no contest to mayhem and admitting to a special allegation of using a knife. He faced a handful of other charges and allegations, including attempted murder, for stabbing Michael Parenteau at a gathering Sept. 20 in Clearlake Oaks.
Authorities say Ney accused Parenteau of sleeping with his ex-girlfriend before the attack. Ney was drunk during the incident, and the victim reportedly had his gallbladder removed after the stabbing.
Ney agreed to plead to the charges offered by the prosecution but left the length of his sentence up to a judge to decide.
Blum ordered Ney to serve the upper term of eight years in prison for mayhem and an additional year for the knife allegation. Ney received 207 days worth of credits based on time served in jail after his arrest and his behavior while in custody.
