EUREKA — Maybe it was the long ride to Eureka, the cool weather or the competition. Whatever the reason, the Kelseyville Knights dropped a non-league softball doubleheader to the St. Bernard”s Crusaders on Saturday, falling 8-0 in the first game and 11-3 in the nightcap.

“They just weren”t on their game,” Kelseyville coach Taryn Kysely said. “They weren”t hitting the ball, and it wasn”t spectacular pitching. Something was just off.”

The Knights (3-2) were blanked on six hits in the opener. Dakota Rixen went 2-for-3 and losing pitcher Jennifer Green also went 2-for-3.

Green struck out eight, walked six and hit one in going the distance for Kelseyville.

Kelseyville took its only lead of the day with two runs in the top of the first inning of game two, but that advantage was all but a memory after one inning as the Crusaders rallied for nine runs in the bottom half against starter Morgan Profitt, who struggled with her control and walked nine in the inning. Green pitched the final five innings, striking out six and walking three.

Rixen went 2-for-4 for the Knights, who finished with seven hits.

Kelseyville opens its North Central League I schedule today in Willits.
