KELSEYVILLE — The Kelseyville Knights won a pitcher”s duel in game one before their bats came alive in game two of a doubleheader sweep of the Laytonville Warriors in non-league softball action on Thursday at Kelseyville.

Rain threatened all day but the two teams were able to complete both games.

“It sprinkled a little bit in the first game,” Kelseyville coach Taryn Kysely said. “It was a little worse in the second game.”

Not that the weather conditions mattered much to Kelseyville senior Jennifer Green, who starred in both ends of the doubleheader. She recorded pitching wins in each game, allowing just two hits in 11 1/3 innings overall with 20 strikeouts and five walks. Green also had a big day at the plate. After going 1-for-2 in the opener, she unloaded on the Warriors in the nightcap, going 3-for-4 with a two-run triple and a three-run home run.

“She crushed it,” Kysely said of Green”s blast to left-center field in the bottom of the first that staked the Knights to a 3-0 lead.

Destiny Pagan went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in the second game while teammate Brendelyn Pelzel went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

In the opener, Kelseyville erased a 1-0 deficit with a three-run bottom of the fourth. Pagan singled home the first two runs of the inning to give the Knights a 2-1 lead and Kassidy Harms” RBI groundout later in the inning made it 3-1.

Green tossed a two-hitter.

In the second game, Green and Savannah Meyer combined on a one-hitter.
