LAKEPORT — A Lake County man charged with killing his brother and another man in a crash last summer is set to have a key pretrial hearing in the case next month.

Dylan Eugene Waters faces two felony counts of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and other charges stemming from the July 3 double-fatal wreck north of downtown Lower Lake.

Authorities allege Waters, 27, was under the influence while driving a Chevrolet Tahoe on Highway 29 near Diener Drive early that morning. His older brother, Kenneth Jeffrey Waters, and another passenger, Randy Alton Orange, were killed.

Waters, who denies wrongdoing in the manslaughter case, appeared at the Lake County Courthouse Wednesday morning to schedule his preliminary examination — a hearing during which a judge would decide if there”s enough evidence to require a trial.

The hearing was set for May 15.

Waters has several other criminal cases pending against him, including an alleged assault in early June, an alleged home invasion in late June and an alleged high-speed chase with authorities three weeks after the double-fatal wreck. He denies wrongdoing those cases as well.

Negotiations continue in an attempt to resolve all of Waters” cases, and both sides have exchanged plea offers, prosecutor John Langan and defense counsel Doug Rhoades said.

Waters remains in custody at the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility. He is set to return to court May 10 to assign a courtroom for his preliminary hearing.
