CLEARLAKE — City police arrested a Clearlake man on charges of child sex abuse after a nearly yearlong investigation Thursday.
Daniel Brazil Sr., 64, was taken into custody by Clearlake Police detectives on a felony arrest warrant charging him with three counts of committing lewd and lascivious acts on a child and two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, Sgt. Nick Bennett stated.
Investigators were first notified last June about allegations of sexual assault involving Brazil several years before, Bennett stated. “The victims were young children at the time of the assaults,” he added.
Clearlake Police Det. Ryan Peterson spent months contacting and interviewing people involved in the case, including the victims, relatives, witnesses and out-of-state law enforcement officials, before being able to present a case to the Lake County District Attorney”s Office for prosecution, Bennett stated.
Brazil is currently being held on $550,000 bail.
The investigation into Brazil covered several decades, and detectives believe there may be other victims who are reluctant to come forward, Bennett stated. Anyone with information about the case can contact Peterson at 994-8251, ext. 320.
