LAKE COUNTY — Caltrans announced that work on the Highway 53 rehabilitation project would begin going 24 hours per day on certain days starting on Sunday.

Work hours will run continuously from 8 p.m. Sundays through 3 p.m. Fridays. One-way traffic control will be in effect, and motorists should anticipate 10-minute delays.

The continuous work schedule is expected to last six weeks. Officials hope it will help ensure the construction gets completed by the fall.

The project includes installing a traffic signal at Olympic Drive, widening shoulders, adding and lengthening turn pockets at intersections, and repaving more than four miles of Highway 53 from just north of 40th Avenue to just south of Highway 20.

As part of the project, Olympic Drive will be closed at Highway 53 part of next week, from Tuesday to Friday.
