HIDDEN VALLEY — The Lake County Milers are hosting the 11th annual Spring Has Sprung runs on May 5 in Hidden Valley. Race time is 8:30 a.m. and the start/finish line is at 18950 Coyote Valley Road in Hidden Valley.
Four races of varying distances cater to all ages and experience levels. There is a one-half kilometer race for ages 4-5 and a 1-kilometer race for ages 6-10. There are also 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) and 10-kilometer (6.2 miles) races available. The 5K course is almost flat and features several age divisions from 10 to 70-plus. The 10K course is challenging and designed for the seasoned runner.
The overall men”s and women”s winners in the 5K and 10K runs receive a one-night stay at Twin Pines Casino and Hotel and $50 in play coupons. Medals are awarded to the top three in each age division as well. The entry fee is $30 for adults and $20 for runners age 19 and younger through Saturday. After Saturday, the price goes up $5. Those signing up by Saturday are guaranteed T-shirts and race bags.
The entry fee for the half-kilometer and 1-kilometer races is $12 through Saturday. Those signing up by Saturday receive a T-shirt and a frozen yogurt treat.
Race day registration begins at 7:15 a.m. and closes at 8 a.m. The awards ceremony begins at 10 a.m.
The Lake County Milers are a group dedicated to the love of running. They support cross country athletes at both Middletown and Upper Lake high schools. In addition, the Milers plan to donate a large portion of their race proceeds to the Coyote Valley Elementary PTO to aid in their fundraising efforts for new and safe playground equipment.
