PETALUMA — St. Vincent overpowered the Upper Lake Cougars 15-1 in a North Central League II varsity baseball game on Friday in Petaluma.

St. Vincent improved to 6-0 in the league standings and 14-3 overall while Upper Lake slipped to 2-4 and 4-8.

“They hit from the top of their lineup to the bottom,” Upper Lake coach Martin Wade said of the Mustangs. “There are no weak spots as far as hitting goes.”

Losing pitcher Greg Gagnon didn”t retire any of the five batters he faced during a four-run St. Vincent first. Relievers Ryan Kitchens and Jared Wade worked two innings apiece during the 4 1/2-inning game.

Scott Menan, who entered play 11-for-13, had one of only two Upper Lake hits. Jeremiah Swaney had the other.

Upper Lake returns to action today against Sonoma Academy at Doyle Park in Santa Rosa. First pitch is 4 p.m. The Cougars play at home Friday when they host Rincon Valley Christian, also at 4 p.m.
