LAKEPORT — City police reminded residents of a few summer safety tips with the season fast approaching.
Lakeport Police Lt. Jason Ferguson said traffic safety is key with the increased vehicle and foot count typically associated with summertime events.
“Please take extra care to watch for pedestrians as you drive about Lakeport, and remember that pedestrians do have the legal right of way,” the lieutenant added.
With warm weather already at hand, Ferguson encouraged pet owners to exercise caution when driving with their animals because leaving pets unattended inside cars can be dangerous.
“Vehicles can very easily become ovens, even with the windows down, so always be prepared and have water if your animal is traveling with you,” he stated.
Truck beds also become hot during the summer, so officials recommend keeping a platform or other protective object on which dogs could sit or lay, according to Ferguson.
As garage sales start to pick up, Ferguson reminded residents of the law prohibiting the posting of handbill or advertising signs on public property in the city.
The ordinance is designed to prevent clutter, discourage littering and avoid obstructions to the view of drivers, the lieutenant stated. “Signs should only be posted on private property and only after obtaining permission from the property owner,” he added.
