LAKEPORT — John Taberner, the missing Richmond boater whose body was found Wednesday in Clear

Lake, died of a massive heart attack, according to the Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO).

Authorities found the body of Taberner, 73, about 4 p.m. on Wednesday, five hours after a dive team found the body of a missing autistic girl in a lake tributary.

The search for Taberner began Tuesday after a witness reported finding his boat idling in weeds near the shore of Jago Bay.

At approximately 7 p.m. on Tuesday, an LCSO marine patrol deputy was dispatched to the area, locating Taberner”s yellow and white fiberglass boat grounded against the shore, engine running and with no one on board, according to LCSO Public Information Officer Steve Brooks.

On Wednesday, the LCSO requested additional resources to assist in the search, including personnel from the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) equipped with a remotely-operated underwater vehicle (ROV).

At 3:52 p.m., the SFPD located Taberner”s body in the water 15 feet below the surface with the use of the ROV.
