LAKEPORT ? ?Round and ?round they went on the Clear Lake High School track last weekend ? and the dollars to fight cancer kept pouring in.
Running in circles for 24 hours doesn”t sound like a lot of fun, but the 666 individuals who participated in the Relay for Life made it look like a party to end all parties. It was part-Halloween, part-New Year”s Eve gathering, part-county fair ? and every penny that was spent went to fight cancer.
A total of $98,726 was raised by 88 teams at the 10th annual cancer-busting fundraiser.
The Bella Angels 1 team”s 15 members led all fundraisers by collecting $9,299. The team also had the top two individual fundraisers for the weekend, Katrina Hickey raising $2,139 and Rhonda Vargas raising $2,099.
“As usual, it was a great response from this community,” event disc jockey Jordon Brenghause said. “This is my sixth Lake County event and they really put a lot effort into it.”
