The ongoing debate about whether or not to regulate the sale of firearms invites a comparison to the licensing of drivers and automobiles.
We rely on our automobiles and are lost without them. However, we are required to pass both written and road testing before a driver”s license is issued and when it expires must be renewed.
An auto license must also be renewed and transfer of title with a change of ownership.
Drivers are encouraged to carry insurance for their sakes as well as others on the road. Careless driving or operating an unsafe vehicle can result in loss of insurance and/or driving privileges. We are encouraged to keep our vehicles in good condition and to do the right thing in accordance with the law.
Compare that to the proposed licensing of firearms.
Those who wish to purchase firearms, for whatever reason, should be held accountable for their choice. A good citizen and neighbor should do no less.
